The Handy & Harman StoryToday, Handy & Harman is a widely diversified company; fabricating thousands of products for a broad spectrum of industrial users. We began our business life in 1867 as a trader of precious metals, but soon became precious metal fabricators, refiners and processors. Of special significance was the development of a major new product line: brazing filler metals and fluxes for joining metals. As early as 1905, we began supplying our customers with small quantities of customized silver solders used to join or repair silver articles. These solders gradually found application beyond the arts industry and were increasingly used by general industry to join all types of metals with strong, leak-tight bonds. These materials became known as "Easy-Flo®, Sil-Fos® and Handy Flux" and have been synonymous with brazing excellence for over 65 years. Over the years, Handy & Harman technicians continued to develop several groundbreaking new product families including: the "Braze" family of alloys for cadmium-free metal joining, Trimet®, a tri-metal clad metal strip for joining mining and cutting tools, and Premabraze® high purity vacuum tube grade filler metals for electrical/electronic applications. To meet the needs of our customers, both now and in the future, we have invested millions of dollars into our manufacturing facilities. One example of this is our recent addition of an arc emission spectrometer to measure trace impurities, ensuring our customers only the highest purity materials. This, in addition to our R&D programs, will enable us to continue to supply the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry and satisfy all your metal joining requirements now, and in the future. |
Premabraze filler metals are available in strip, wire, powder, and preformed rings and shapes |
High Purity ApplicationsToday the performance demands made on aerospace, medical, electronic and other commercial equipment are so exceptional as to require an unparalleled degree of reliability. Many of these hi-purity, hi-tech brazed assemblies can only be as reliable as their sub-components. The failure of any of which could be catastrophic. Handy & Harman , one of the worlds leading producers and fabricators of brazing materials, has worked closely with many of these manufacturers in developing and manufacturing their Premabraze and other high purity vacuum tube grade brazing filler metals to meet todays exceptional specifications. . |
Wire drawing equipment enables us to supply our customers with exact wire diameters for precision brazing |
Premabraze® High Purity Brazing MaterialsIn many of todays highly specialized metal joining applications, control of various elements and impurities is critical to the success of the process. At Handy & Harman, our manufacturing equipment includes state-of-the-art vacuum melting and casting for our high purity filler metals. We are a fully integrated manufacturer of these high purity, low volatile gold, silver and palladium based alloys. Our Premabraze and high purity alloys are defined by their impurity limits for elements that are volatile (high vapor pressure) and would out gas during the brazing cycle. These filler metals serve a variety of industries including aerospace, semi-conductor, telecommunications, electrical/electronic and medical equipment. These applications require filler materials that are free from all volatile impurities. The brazing alloys they use are required to meet or exceed the highest standards. Our Premabraze brand of brazing materials meets these stringent industry requirements. . |

Computer controlled continuous casting.
Tolerances are held to +/- .005 on slitting mills. |
Vacuum ProcessedPremabraze filler metals are made by using only certified pure material. This metal is vacuum melted and cast to insure the cleanliness of the filler metal. These castings are manufactured into strip and wire products using processes developed to maintain the materials integrity throughout production. Conformance to specification is assured by chemical analysis and other performance requirements. Manufacturing CapabilitiesAfter casting and initial processing, these high purity metals are fabricated to several standard widths, thicknesses and diameters. However, our extensive manufacturing capabilities enable us to provide you with material sizes and shapes customized to your specific requirements. Some of these capabilities include: Wire Drawing-Carbide and diamond dies on precision equipment produce diameters from. 187 to .005. This enables us to provide the optimal sized material for your application. Our capabilities also include the ability to produce round, flat, square, half round, rectangular or unusual cross-sectioned material. Strip Rolling/Slitting-Precision mills produce material thicknesses that are typically unavailable directly from the mills. Widths from 6 to .062 and thicknesses down to .001 are available on spools, coils, etc., depending upon your needs and production requirements. Blanking/Ring Forming-Manufactured by high-speed machines, our rings and blanked parts are produced to customers specified requirements. |
Our Thermo Elemental Arc Emission Spectrometer enables the detection of trace elements (less than 1 part per million) in high purity materials. |
Quality ControlHandy & Harman Canada operates with an ISO 9002 registered quality system. In addition, we have a quality control lab with the latest in tested equipment. However, we also believe that quality cannot be tested into a product, therefore all our employees are trained in Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other quality control techniques and they are responsible for the quality of the materials they produce. We also certify that our materials meet your specifications and independent lab certifications of analysis are also available when required. |
Precision blanking equipment holds extremely tight tolerances on precision parts. Preform capabilities vary from .032 outside diameter to 4.00 and larger. |
Technical SupportHandy & Harman has established a worldwide leadership role in the manufacture and marketing of Brazing and Soldering materials. At the heart of this growth and success is our commitment to Technical Support and Customer Service. As a technical resource for hundreds of companies worldwide, customers have come to rely on us for engineering support in the areas of new product design, process development, training seminars and problem resolution. In addition, our innovative approach to customer service has earned us the reputation of a highly reliable and responsive supplier of brazing and soldering products and services. |
